Institutionalizing Bicycle and Pedestrian Traffic Counts and Data Collection

Principal Investigator:

Greg Lindsey, Professor, Humphrey School of Public Affairs

Project Summary:

MnDOT engineers and planners need information about bicycle and pedestrian traffic to achieve key strategic objectives outlined in Minnesota Go and other planning and policy documents. MnDOT has completed a research project on non-motorized monitoring methods (i.e., "Methodologies for Counting Bicyclists and Pedestrians in Minnesota") and is completing an implementation project (ie., "Implementation of Bicycle and Pedestrian Traffic Counts and Data Collection") on non-motorized monitoring that includes review of monitoring technologies. The purposes of this project are to extend ongoing monitoring activities and support new efforts by MnDOT staff to institutionalize bicycle and pedestrian data collection and management within the agency.
